Summer English language camps are a chance to travel and work around Spain during a festive time of year with sunny skies and warm weather. And no matter where you go, you will find a nearby village or town celebrating their traditional week long "fiestas," with special events, dancing and singing into the wee hours of the morning.
Not only is this a golden opportunity to travel and discover Spain, but you will be earning invaluable work experience (as well as an income) teaching children in summer camps. You will become familiar with Spain and the wonderful Spanish way of life (which Spaniards have transformed into an art form) while working as a productive member of Spanish society. This will allow you a profound vision of Spain that a tourist could never attain.
*All Spain Summer Program Participants are required to complete the TEFL Madrid certification course starting from June 4, 2011 - June 29, 2011. Click here to learn more about TEFL Madrid.
Summer camp jobs are typically in two week periods of time with a maximum of four to six weeks of employment. Summer camps typically start in late June or the first week of July. Many camps offer free housing, food and a very generous stipend; approximately 500 Euros for each two-week session. You will be paid by your summer camp employer on the last day of your work.
Most summer camp jobs are at "overnight" camps living in cabins in the woods. These are thought of as "English Villages" with English classes being taught throughout the day. All activities such as eating, sports, and outings to nearby cities are in English.
You should expect to work five to six days a week with the children. You will work with many other camp teachers from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It will be a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded people who enjoy teaching and traveling abroad.
Compensation
Summer Camp Program participants receive free room and board during the camp in addition to a stipend of approximately 500 Euros per 2-week camp session. This can vary based on hiring camp.
TEFL Certification
Spain Summer Program participants are required to complete the June 4 - June 29 TEFL certification course at TEFL Madrid. Click here for more information on the TEFL Madrid Course.
Camp Matching Day
TEFL Students will interview with a variety of different camps in Madrid and get matched up with a camp job based on each camp's particular staffing needs. TEFL students must commit to a four-week camp position, however, camps reserve the right to not extend employment for a second two-week session. Camp jobs are held in a variety of locations, ranging from overnight summer camps in the mountains throughout Spain and day camps in Madrid.
