Spain Summer English Teaching Program - 2010
Teach English in Spain this summer for 4 weeks at
English language camps for young learners.
Teach English in Spain at overnight away camps in the mountains and country side of beautiful Spain or at day camps in Madrid. Teach English to Spanish children approximately 5 classes a day in a complete English immersion environment. Participate in the camp activities with the students and other camp English teachers. Hike, swim, get away and enjoy all of the fun a summer camp has to offer. Spanish is not necessary as language camps are little “English Villages” where the young students are there to have a complete English immersion from native English speakers. As an English teacher you do not need to speak Spanish, you will only teach in English.
NOTE: This is only for TEFL Institute graduates of our Madrid TEFL Class of May 31, 2010, no other applications to teach in camps are accepted regardless of your background.

English language summer camp teaching
Why teach in a Summer Camp in Spain?
As the school year begins to wind down towards the end of June in Madrid, most English teachers start thinking about spending the summer in Spain near a beach or in the mountains, but they also need to have a job and earn money.
For graduates of the May 31, 2010 TEFL Institute Madrid Course you are given the opportunity to work in a sunny, exciting location in Spain. English language camps in Spain are located on the coast, or in a rural area with mountains, rivers and lakes.
Summer camp jobs are typically in 2 week periods of time with a minimum of 4 weeks of employment. Summer camps typically start the first week of July. Many camps offer free housing, food and a very generous stipend approximately 500 Euros for each 2 week session. You will be paid by your summer camp employer on the last day of your work. TEFL Institute does not own or operate these language camps but has connections for our graduates to interview with these summer camps. For our students taking our May 31, 2010 Spain TEFL classes, a position will be reserved for you to work in July. Any of our TEFL Madrid students who take the 4 week course throughout the year will also have alumni services of referrals to camp jobs. Interviews for camp jobs in Spain are always in person.
Arrival in Madrid:
You will book your own flights, housing and ground transportation to Madrid. Madrid is a very easy city to navigate and travel within. We will provide you with orientation materials and advice on how to get around. Students will be put in touch with each other prior to arrival to make friends. TEFL Institute will provide you with a list of nearby hostels in Madrid that our students stay at along with directions from the airports. Students should arrive at least 1 day early. You will be provided with guidance but you need to be self sufficient in traveling as part of this teaching abroad experience.
Orientation in Madrid:
Orientation will be Friday morning, May 28. This is mandatory.
Every new month's class is welcome to join us for an orientation session at TEFL Institute Madrid. Orientation is always on the Friday of the week prior to your first TEFL class at 9:30 in the morning. All the students meet with the Directors of the TEFL Institute English Language Academy and various staff members. Each student is given a welcome pack from the City Hall of Madrid that has city and subway maps, and all kinds of interesting information about Madrid and Spain ranging from restaurants and tabernas to museums and cultural events.
After the orientation, the directors then take everyone out for an informal "English " breakfast where everybody gets a chance to relax and converse more informally. The whole orientation covers about three hours and finishes sometime around 12:00 noon. There is also a "Kick-off Cocktail" event of some kind scheduled on the same Friday in the evening where new TEFL students can meet and network with other teachers/friends of TEFL Institute.
Housing in Spain during your TEFL training:
Weeks 1 and 2 - Madrid: Hostels are typically 25-30 Euros a night. Our students are all very happy with the referrals we provide. You have the choice of your accommodations while in Madrid. Weeks 1 and 2 will be in Madrid for TEFL training.
Weeks 3 & 4 - Leon: Your weeks 3 and 4 in Spain for TEFL certification will be at our camp in Leon. Your housing, food and transportation is provided at a package price. You will leave on Saturday June 26th.
Camp work dates:
Some camps start immediately on June 27 and others on July 4th. If you have a week in between TEFL training and work, you are responsible for your own housing during that time. Either start date will provide you with a 4 week summer camp employment.
Life teaching in a Spain Summer camp:
Most summer camp jobs are at "overnight" camps living in cabins in the woods. These are thought of as "English Villages" with English classes being taught throughout the day, all activities of eating, sports, outings to nearby cities with the campers are all done in English.
You should expect to work 5- 6 days a week with the children, work with many other camp teachers from America, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It will be a wonderful opportunity to meet like minded people who enjoy teaching and traveling abroad.
If you are looking for a cultural exchange, a rewarding teaching abroad experience, and a starting point of teaching overseas job, this is the opportunity for you.

And no matter where you go, you will find a nearby village or town celebrating their traditional week long "fiestas," with special events, dancing and singing into the wee hours of the morning Not only is this a golden opportunity to travel and to discover Spain, but you will be earning invaluable work experience (as well as an income) teaching children in summer camps. You will become familiar with Spain and the wonderful Spanish way of life (which Spaniards have transformed into an art form) while working as a productive member of Spanish society. This will allow you a profound vision of Spain that a tourist could never attain.
