How to Teach English Abroad
Course Dates: To be announced
Description: Introductory training course that prepares students to teach English abroad. Students will complete training in the areas of class lesson planning, classroom management, finding and ESL job abroad, and preparing to go abroad to live.
TEFL Institute developed this seminar in response to the large number of Northwestern University students contacting us about TEFL training and how to teach English abroad. The students indicated they would like to go abroad for six months to a year in an assignment that could:
- Enhance their resume with real international work experience
- Build their language and cultural skills through total immersion
- Save them thousands of dollars versus typical study abroad programs because their school employer would provide housing and pay (some would even provide airfare)
- Attract African-American, Latino, and others to go abroad by offering a full range of opportunities in Africa, Asia, South America, and throughout Europe
- Appeal to alumni who wanted to take a year or two to travel and experience a different culture before embarking on their career back in the United States or elsewhere after graduating
Our Solution
Develop a three week mini courses comprised of three 90 minute classes at the Norris Center of Northwestern University. While this is not a TEFL Certification course it does provide students with the basics on how to find an English teaching job and what to look for in a TEFL training course.
Students completing this course can feel very confident in how to find an ESL teaching job abroad and for those seeking to teach English abroad professionally, they may want to enroll in a full TEFL training course. Northwestern University highly recommends that its students obtain international experience. For the cost of this course (which is very affordable, only $75.00) students are prepared and they are immersed in the language, customs and culture of their host countries.
Many students will develop an international network of friends and associates they can draw upon later in their career. In addition, they can carry the Northwestern University banner into every region of the world from China to Ghana to Costa Rica to Russia and everywhere in between.
Those seeking additional training can enroll in a TEFL Professional course comprised of 120 hours of training.
