For centuries Nice, France has been a destination for those seeking gorgeous weather and breathtaking scenery. Situated next to Monaco and just a stone’s throw from Italy, Nice has a truly international flavor and entertains international visitors year round.
Long before its founding by the ancient Greeks in the 4th century BC, Nice was one of the oldest human settlements in the world. Archaeological sites dot the region, including Terra Amata, a settlement dated to about 400,000 BC.
For those looking for a more lively experience, be sure to take advantage of the crystal-blue waters and famous beaches. Afterword, explore Nice’s “Pedestrian Zone,” which runs parallel to the Promenade des Anglais (the city’s seaside promenade) and is chalk full of restaurants, cafés, and shops.
Besides the unwavering natural beauty of the Cote d’Azur, visitors to Nice can explore seemingly endless amounts of historic plazas, squares, churches, buildings, and monuments, such as the Hotel Negresco, the Monument Aux Morts, and the Place Massena. The city’s influence on artists can be viewed in museums throughout Nice, including Musée Marc Chagall, Musée Matisse, and Musée des Beaux-Arts Jules Cheret.
