Nestled in the heart of the Gulf of Guinea on the West Coast of Africa, Ghana is a land with miles and miles of sun-dappled beaches, the home of the Ashanti, and the land of gold. With its beautiful landscape, lush green palm trees, and many ethno-linguistic groups, Ghana offers some of the most memorable travel experiences of Africa. In Ghana, our TEFL program is located in Accra - the capital city - offering some of the most beautiful beaches as well as other places of interest such as the Perpetual Flame, the National Museum, craft markets, the Makola Market, Liberation Square, and the tropical gardens.
The TEFL course in Ghana is an extensive 4-week/150-hour program - including 125 hours of course materials and in-class work with an instructor and an additional 25 hours of volunteer English-teaching. Both extensive and fun, the TEFL course provides participants with comprehensive training in a professional and supportive environment.
The School
The school in Ghana is located in the heart of Accra, providing participants with easy assess to the major areas of Accra. The school is approximately 5 km from the Accra International Airport and offers a modern office with all audio-visual facilities.
Housing
Housing options and pricing are dependent upon availability and season at the time of your course. Your onsite coordinator will be able to provide more details and recommendations.
Homestays can be arranged with a local family for $400. Housing and meals provided by the local host family - offering a separate, private room and three local meals a day. Should participants wish to stay in a hotel, these arrangements can be made for an additional fee. The cost of the hotel can range from $5-100 per day in Accra -depending upon the quality of the hotel. Housing options and pricing are dependent upon availability and season at the time of your course.
Transportation
Airport Pick up can be arranged with advanced notice. The most popular forms of transportation in Accra are Taxis, Trotos (vehicles repurposed for passenger transport), and buses. Taxis are convenient for tourists however there is no meter system, so price negotiations are common. Trotos are an efficient form of transport around the city as they stop at bus stops and truck stations.
Climate
Accra has a tropical savanna climate with two rainy seasons. May through July and August through October are the two rainy seasons.
