ESL Volunteers Needed to Work with RefugeeOne in Chicago
RefugeeOne is seeking volunteers to assist with Thursday ESL classes. This opportunity is ideal for TEFL students wishing to fulfill practicum hours and those who are interested in gaining meaningful experience in the field. Volunteers are needed for morning and afternoon sessions. Morning sessions (8:30am - 11:30am) serve high beginner ESL students. Afternoon sessions meet from 12:30pm - 3:30pm and serve high intermediate ESL students. Curricum, training and materials will be provided by RefugeeOne staff. Volunteers will begin by observing classes and helping to run classroom activities. Ideally, classroom volunteers will transition into teaching their class independently, with support available from RefugeeOne staff. Classes are small and consist of newly arrived adult refugees. Volunteer teachers should be independent self-starters with a great sense of humor! Volunteers are asked to make a 10-week commitment to RefugeeOne and must be willing to undergo a background check.
Please contact Ann-Elizabeth Young at aeyoung@refugeeone.org or call 773.423.9836 for more information. Ann-Elizabeth is a TEFL Institute alumna who now works as the Volunteer Coordinator with RefugeeOne.
RefugeeOne is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that provides a full range of services to refugees brought to the United States by the US State Department for resettlement in the Chicago metropolitan area. The majority of our services are provided to refugees displaced from their homelands due to war or persecution. Every year, RefugeeOne helps these refugees secure housing, learn English, acclimate to American culture, develop computer and other employable skills, find jobs, obtain medical and other care, access the public school system for their children, apply for citizenship, and obtain care for elderly family members.
