Teaching Abroad in Bulgaria Overview:

The Bulgarian people make their own cheese and grow their own potatoes but you will marvel at their coffee! Believe it or not, the country that was once behind the iron curtain boasts as many monasteries as America has Starbucks shops, and Bulgarians can brew a great cup of Joe that even that global franchise headquartered in Washington could appreciate. Along with sucking down the yummy beverage, make sure and check out the black sand beaches. The surf is as pretty as the ski slopes and ancient ruins that all contribute to Bulgaria's allure and charm. These attractions have been tempting foreigners to move to Bulgaria to teach English and take in the local customs, eats and overall magnetism of the area.

There are three main events for visitors to take part in: the election of Queen Rose, the harvesting ritual in the rose gardens, and the parade through town. Bulgaria is one of the largest producers of rose oil in the world! The oil produced from the Bulgarian Kazanluk rose is called "liquid gold" and is used for perfumes, chocolates, liqueur, and jam. This rose oil is said to be more expensive than real gold thus the annual celebration of roses!
