New York City, the largest city in the United States since 1790, is currently home to nearly 8.2 million people. Home to an incredibly diverse population, New York is a perfect place for you to begin your TEFL training and start your international career.
The skyline of New York City is one of the most indelible images in the world. Architectural landmarks dot the city, from the Empire State Building to the Brooklyn Bridge. In the harbor sits the Statue of Liberty, which beckoned millions of immigrants with her promise of a better life for all. New York City is still an incredible melting pot of diversity, with nearly 36% of the city’s residents being foreign born. Take advantage of the city’s diverse population by sampling fare from around the world, and touring historic neighborhoods such as Chinatown, the Lower East Side, and Harlem.
New York City’s reputation as a cultural touchstone is well deserved. The Lincoln Center for the Performing arts is home to 12 of the most influential performing arts organizations in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Philharmonic, Jazz at the Lincoln Center, New York City Ballet, and the Juilliard School. The city is also filled with hundreds of museums and cultural institutions of every kind, from the Museum of Modern Art to the American Museum of Natural History.
Modern cultural movements are no different. The city was the birthplace of the Harlem Renaissance in the 30s, center of the jazz movement in the 40s, and birthplace of hip hop in the 70s. Scores of clubs of every flavor reside in The City That Never Sleeps. No matter your interest, you can certainly find it in New York City. Find more information at www.NYC.gov.
